Professor Raafat El-Awady was born in Egypt in December 1967. He received his PhD degree in Pharmacology and toxicology from Hamburg/Cairo University in a channel-based system in 2000. Currently he is professor of Pharmacology and toxicology and head of the Pharmacy Practice & Pharmacotherapeutics Department in college of Pharmacy, University of Sharjah. Moreover, he is the coordinator of the Drug Design & Discovery research group in Sharjah Institute for Medical Research (SIMR). Prof El-Awady has published more than 30 articles in international peer reviewed journals and he is serving as editor and reviewer of several reputed international journals

Prof El-Awady’s research interests are pharmacogenomics and individualized cancer therapy, regulation of cell cycle checkpoints and DNA repair after cancer chemotherapy, induction and repair of DNA damage in mammalian cells and mechanisms of resistance to cancer therapy
