Dr. Srikanth Perike is working as a Research Associate in University of Illinois, Chicago, U.S.A. He is multidisciplinary cell biologist with an extremely broad range of expertise. This diverse range of scientific endeavours has made him work associated with cell signalling and regulation of cell physiology. He received his Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Kakatiya University, India. After, he pursued his M.Sc. in Molecular Bioengineering and PhD in Cell Biology from Technische Universitat Dresden, Germany. He identified the biomechanical role of ion transporters in the context of persistent directional cell migration and delineated the bio-electrophysiological pathways. Further, he developed lab on chip devices to sense the intracellular ionic membrane currents. Dr. Perike joined in the University of Liege, Belgium as a Postdoctoral Researcher and identified the mechanisms of Human T-Lymphotropic-1 viral entry into host cells. Dr. Perike’s research lies in the understanding of the key molecules that are involved in the human diseases. Currently, he is identifying the mechanisms of reduced atrial contractility in cardiac atrial fibrillation, and to develop novel molecular approaches to improve atrial contractility and reduce embolic stroke risk in atrial fibrillation.
