Yasmin Ahmad, (Ph. D), Senior Scientist, Peptide and Proteomics Division, Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences, DRDO, India. In 2004, she obtained her Ph. D degree in Analytical Chemistry from Aligarh Muslim University, India. She was awarded with CSIR fellowship in 2004 (India). Her initial work was on optimization of tools and techniques which was later translated into animal models as well as human samples. Her key contributions included: (i) identification of potential targets for predicting HAPE (Funct Integr Genom., 2011) (ii) screening of human plasma obtained from high altitude natives to understand the adaptive mechanism under hypobaric hypoxia (PLoS One. 2013) and (iii) identification of novel differentiation protein markers in hypobaric hypoxia induced rat model, for the better understanding of dynamic changes that occur in plasma and lung tissue (PLoS One. 2014; Sci Rep, 2015). She, also contributed to proteomic studies of blood platelets where the clinical relationship of calpain protein was established with hypobaric hypoxia induced thrombosis (Blood, 2013). Her scientific achievements for this tenure included 19 original research articles in peer reviewed international journals and two book chapters. Moreover, her contribution was also considered impactful by scientific community and she was awarded Surg. Rear Admiral M.S Malhotra Research Prize for the year 2013 and Dr T.S. Vasundhara Memorial Best Paper Award 2015. Apart from this, she also studied the therapeutic intervention of Silymarin for preventing hypoxia induced inflammation (Free Rad.Bio. Med 2016). Presently serving as an editorial member of several reputed journals like International Organization of Scientific Research, Journal of Integrated –Omics, Journal of Translational Proteomics Research & expert Reviewers for journals like Journal of Proteomics and Bioinformatics, PLos One, Biotechnology Progress, Acta Physioloca, International Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Clinical Bioinformatics Application.
Yasmin Ahmad Research Interests are Biomarker Discovery and Therapeutic Interventions for High Altitude Maladies using Proteomics and Genomics Approach.
