Robert E. Smith received a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Missouri – Kansas City before obtaining a postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of pier Luigi Luisi at the ETH-Zürich, Switzerland. He has worked for the Midwest Research Institute and Honeywell International, Inc., where he was trained in Total Quality Management (TQM), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). He is currently a science advisor for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and an adjunct assistant professor at Park, University. He has written over 120 journal articles, nine book chapters and five books, including Systems Thinking in Medicine and New Drug Discovery, which will be published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing in early 2018.
