Biography

Dr. Maria Jose Garcia Barrado is Professor and researcher at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Salamanca. She accomplished her PhD in Pharmacy and she performed a post-doctoral research stage at the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University Catholic of Louvain (Belgium) under the supervision of Prof. Jean-Claude Henquin. Scientifically she has been interested in the study of the mechanisms of control of insulin secretion and insulin resistance, and in the last few years in the field of Neuroendocrinology, especially in the hypothalamus-pituitary axis. She has obtained multiple research funding and she is author or co-author of around 70 scientific papers in prestigious journals, several book chapters and presentations in both national and international congress. Her academic activities include teaching of Pharmacology to students of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Masters and supervising research PhD.
