Dr Smita Mishra is a professional of high accomplished pediatric interventional cardiologist, working as the associate Director in JAYPEE hospital Sector 128, Noida, India, a tertiary care centre dealing with intervention and surgery of children/adolescents and adults suffering from simple and complex congenital and valvular heart diseases. She is regularly performing device closure of ASD, VSD and PDA as well as ballooning procedures. She is a trained trans thoracic, trans-esophageal and fetal echocardiographer. She has attended national and international conferences as the faculty as well as delegate. Dr Smita mishra has experience of 28 years in the field of pediatrics and pediatric cardiology. She has developed the a community outreach program, ‘SPANDAN’ for the underprivileged children of society in madhypradesh, and has worked for various charitable organization despite of her primary commitment for the commercially driven health care setup. She has shouldered the responsibility for the academic development of pediatric Cardiology in remote India by being the treasurer, then secretary and recently as the chairperson of cardiology chapter of Indian Academy of pediatrics. She is an active member of Pediatric cardiologic society of India and has authored PCSI criteria for disability 2016. She was convener of IAP guidelines for rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease in children, and authored the guidelines published in Indian Pediatrics 2008. She was also faculty for national consensus guidelines on timing of intervention in pediatric cardiology (for PCSI). 2007 and National consensus meeting on drugs in pediatric cardiology 2008(PCSI). She has written chapters for the books published nationally and internationally. She was co-author of drug formulary 2006 by IAP. She has written path breaking article on shortcomings of the PC-PNDT Act to rescue the ultrasound as the medical modality. She is a simple, straightforward professional with scientific thinking, who cares for children suffering from heart diseases and can go miles to create the support system for them. She is strongest proponent of recruitment of mothers and children in the health care delivery system rather them letting them be the consumers of global health. She has proposed and collaborated with RBSK-MP to conduct a workshop named as “ DOWN’s Home care rehabilitation program” where literate mothers of babies with trisomy 21 can be trained to become a resource person in those cities where no facilities are available. She has acumen to work on health-related policies and her goal of life is to bring most advanced quality health care within the reach of poorest of poor of the society. She believes in highly ethical practice and follows the five principles of peaceful co-existence, i.e.- Mutual respect and tolerance, Non-interference, Equality, Partnership and Sharing of knowledge at her work -place.
Dr Smita Mishra has keen interest in research project. Her field of interest are fetal echocardiography and its impact on neonatal outcome, 3 D echocardiography in complex congenital heart disease. Besides she is trying to work on topics of social interest like Cardiac disability status and it economic benefits, health economics of prolonged hospitalization in a private set-up: ways and means to control the cost!
