Biography

Dr S. Maria Packiam has received his Ph.D. in the University of Madras, Tamilnadu State, India. He serves as an Associate Professor in Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology Department, Loyola College, Chennai and a visiting scientist in Biology Department, Loyola University, Chicago, USA. In 2014-15 his post-doctoral research on Bioinformatics was successfully completed in Loyola University of Chicago, USA. He is a researcher in the field of Medical and Agricultural Entomology. He has a patent for a newly developed botanical pesticide known as ‘PONNEEM’ an ecofriendly biopesticide. Farmers are using it for controlling harmful agricultural and medical insect pests. His present research work is on the effect of biomolecules of soil microbes against anticancer and antibacterial activities. He has been a highly resourceful person for giving environmental awareness programmes on sustainable agriculture and Integrated Pest Management for numerous self-help groups, thousands of Indian farmers and students environmental movement. He has organized 12 National and International Conferences and Workshops on Life Science and has published 35 research papers in national and international journals. Recently he is appointed as Deputy Director and Scientist at Entomology Research Institute (ERI), and Deputy Director of Loyola Institute of Frontier Energy (LIFE), Loyola College, Chennai, India. Based on his contributions in the field of Life Sciences, he has been selected by many scientific bodies as an Editorial Board Member and Reviewer in reputed scientific Journals namely Honourable Member of Editorial Board for Innovative Techniques in Agriculture, Life Member for Entomology Academy of India (EAI), Editorial Member for SciFed Journal of Plant Physiology, Reviewer for Journal of Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety.

Dr. Maria Packiam's Research interests are Biopesticide, Phytoxicity, Human Vector Control, Insect Pest Management, Phytochemicals in diseases treatment.
