Dr. Ashek Elahi Noor is an Assistant Professor cum Dental Public Health Educator in the Department of Dental Public Health in the Sapporo Dental College & Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) at the University of Dhaka in 2007. After completion of his internship at this Institution in March 2009, he has been appointed as a Lecturer cum Medical Officer in the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Then he has been transferred from the dept. Of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery to Dental Public Health as a Lecturer from 2013 to 2016. After then he has been promoted as an Assistant Professor cum Dental Public Health Educator in the dept. Of Dental Public health in this institution to date. During his study in Dentistry, he has been keen to study further in Public Health. During acting as a Lecturer in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in this institution, he has to deal with many patients having been diagnosed with oral cancer & other Oro-facial infection. Among them most of the patients having a history of taking cigarettes & other smokeless tobacco. Unfortunately, their prognosis is very poor after treatment which felt him in deep thought and sorrow for their family member. By watching this scenario from time to time, he wishes to fulfill his dream and is determined to do post-graduation to treat them in an ideal way or do more and more research work properly so that their suffering can be limited. After that, he completed his post-graduation course of Master of Public Health (MPH) from NIPSOM under BSMMU in 2012. Surprisingly, his final dissertation title in the MPH course was “smokeless tobacco use among the women in old Dhaka” which also matched the field of his future study. Furthermore, he also performs some voluntary dental camps in different rural and urban areas in Bangladesh. He also participates as a dental camp member and supporter –“model project for an improvement on oral health care in a rural area in Bangladesh organized by JICA in 2011-2013 sessions. It was known to us that prevention is better than cure. So first of all, it is necessary to research what caused the problem whether the solution is effective but also realistic and achievable manner. It is believable that his background and work experience in this field is a major advantage as a Dental Public Health Researcher. He conducted a substantial number of oral health research as the principal investigator in both at the national and international level with having six original articles, six case reports & one review reports in this Public Health field. Moreover, he joined as a reviewer and the editorial body of International Journal of Medical Science and Health Research (IJMSHR), India, Dentistry & Dental Practices Journal (DDPJ), Troy, Turkey, Update Dental College Journal (UpDCJ), Journal of Contemporary Dental Sciences, in Bangladesh and selected Editorial Panel member in the international journal named ECronicon Open Access in the United Kingdom. Recently, he achieved a Fellowship of the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH) from the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), England in 2020.
Dr. Ashek Elahi Noor's research interests include OOral Health Care research focusing on smokeless tobacco use and nutrition among the aged population.
