After earning my PhD, I joined Dr. Eric G. Krause and Annette de Kloet laboratory at the University of Florida as a postdoctoral associate. There, I studied the ability of angiotensin to regulate blood pressure using a number of cutting-edge scientific techniques. This included the use of optogenetic stimulation of angiotensin-sensitive neurons in specific neuronal populations to lower blood pressure, which is a unique and valuable approach to study this problem that circumvents the downsides of pharmacological or physiological techniques. At this time, I was involved in six grants supported by NIH. The results of my initial postdoctoral works have recently been featured in the FASEB Annual Meetings (2016, 2017) as well as at the Annual Meeting of the American Heart Association (2017), where my data was well-received by international audiences. Currently, I am a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Missouri at Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center under the supervision of Dr. David D. Kline. He is a recognized leader in the field of cardiorespiratory as an electrophysiologist, and has a strong record for training postdoctorates. I study the neural control of the cardiovascular and respiratory system using several techniques in the neural plasticity in the forebrain during obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in the chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) experimental model.
