Professor Neil H Wood is qualified as a Dentist from the University of Pretoria and was awarded the Middleton-Shaw Colgate prize by the South African division of the International Association for Dental Research as an undergraduate for his research endeavors. He completed his post-graduate diploma in Maxillofacial and Oral Pathology at University of Pretoria and was shortly accepted to specialize in Oral Medicine and Periodontics. His clinical and academic experience developed further as a senior lecturer and senior specialist at the University of Limpopo, Medunsa Campus School of Oral Health Sciences. When he accepted a post as the Head Clinical Unit at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, he obtained his Associate Professorship in Oral Medicine and Periodontology from the same institution. He has authored and co-authored for more than 60 National and International peer-reviewed papers. He is a Member of a number of organizations including the International Association for Dental Research is the current president of the South African Society for Periodontology and was a fellow of the International Academy of Oral Oncology. In addition, he is serving on some Editorial boards for peer-reviewed Medical and Dental journals, he currently holds the position of Associate Professor and Head of the clinical unit at the University of Limpopo, Medunsa Campus, where he is involved in the teaching and training of undergraduates and of postgraduates in the specialized fields of Oral Medicine, Periodontology and Implantology.
