Mr. Luis Orlando Maroto Martín was born in 1973, in Camajuaní, Villa Clara, Cuba. He studied Veterinary Medicine from 1991 to 1996. After graduated he start to work in the Department of Animal Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Sciences at Universidad Central de Las Villas (UCLV), Cuba, in Sept.1996. In 1997, he initiate investigations in plant and bacterial lectins, being involved in a research project funded by Vlaams Interuniversitaire Raad (VLIR, Belgium) between 1998 and 2003. In 2001 he obtained a scholarship from VUBAROS (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, VUB in Belgium) to perform his PhD studies. In 2002 and 2003, being in Belgium, he contributed to the establishment of a closer collaboration through an Inter-University Cooperation Programme (also funded by VLIR) which was named IUC_VLIR-UCLV. In May, 2006 he was designated as Head of the Department-Career of Biology, creating the career of Biology at UCLV. In October 2006 obtained his PhD degree in Applied Biological Sciences with Great Distinction. He has taught several undergraduate courses at the career of Veterinary Medicine (Biochemistry, Swine Health-Production and Animal Pathology) and Biology. In postgraduate courses he have been involved in two Master Programs and Doctoral Programs, giving lectures in Physic-Chemistry of Proteins, Proteomics, Control of Animal Diseases, Molecular Epidemiology, and Proteins and its application in Biosciences. During his professional life he has been received many postgraduate courses in several topics. He is a Member of the Scientific Council at: Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Institute of Plan Biotechnology and Center of Bioactive Compounds. He has participated in several National and International congress and symposia; he has published many articles in National and International journals. He has been acting as promoter of undergraduate thesis, Master thesis and PhD thesis, and has been involved as jury in PhD Defence in Animal Health-Production, Plant Biotechnology and Plant Health.
