Dr. Maria Eugenia graduated in 1986 as Biologist at the Universidad Simón Bolivar (USB), Venezuela. Then, she completed training in immunology of human reproduction and molecular biology through postgraduate courses at the same university and the Instituto de Estudios Avanzados (IDEA).
In 1993, she began to work at the Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad in Caracas, as a Supervisor of the Immunology Section of the Special Tests Unit and contributed to the set up of the Recurrent Fetal Loss Clinic. From 1997 to 2005, she served as Embryologist of "Fertility Medical Group" at the Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad, the largest IVF program in Venezuela accredited by the Latin America Network of Assisted Reproduction (REDLARA).
Since 2006 until 2011, she was a member of the research team of the Spanish Stem Cell Bank, Valencia Branch, at the Prince Felipe Research Center and had made important contributions to the development of approaches for derivation of human embryonic stem cells from single biopsied blastomere preserving embryo viability. During this time, she was the lab manager of the Bank and worked on several research projects with human embryonic stem cells working as embryologist and research assistant. In 2011, she began to work as senior embryologist at IVF Unit in Valencia Infertility Institute (IVI) dedicated exclusively to the preimplantation genetic diagnosis program.
In 2012, she started the activities at IGENOMIX where she provides technical support to fertility clinics for the development of PGS‐PGD and vitrification programs. She also develops theoretical training on techniques for improving the results of ART programs as IVF consultant.
Furthermore, she develops educational activities coordinating national and international courses. She is working as associate professor of University of Valencia participating at the nine editions of the official master “Biotechnology of Assisted Human Reproduction”. She also participates at the eight editions of "Online Master on Theoretical Basis and Procedures for Assisted Reproduction Laboratory" and the three editions of “International Master online Biotechnology of Human Assisted Reproduction and Embryology”, all of them organized by Academic Institute IVI.
