Biography

Dr. Vivek Lal is a Doctor of Medicine in Pharmacology with 17 years experience in the specialty, and 27 years as a medical doctor. He is also a Ph.D. in Medical Education and a Fellow in Clinical Research. After putting in 21 years of meritorious service in the Army Medical Corps (India), he is currently working as the Chief Academic Officer of a Caribbean Medical School. He has been actively involved with medical education to medical and nursing undergraduates, post graduate students and para-medical staff. He also has rich experience in pre-clinical drug research, clinical research, hospital administration and hospital logistics support system (Pharmacy management, Equipment procurement & maintenance, turnkey projects etc). His expertise revolves around the training of medical graduates & post graduates (inculcating interest in rational pharmaco-therapeutics), so also in pre-clinical drug research involving in-vitro/in-vivo Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics. He has hands on experience in the traditional as well as the Problem Based Learning (PBL) types of medical curricula being followed in different medical schools all over the world, which includes curriculum development and quality assurance of medical education. Dr Lal has also been working as a top level medical administrator in 200-700 bedded military hospitals in India.

Notably, Dr Lal initiated a Government funded mammoth toxicology & toxinology project for the Indian Armed Forces, involving the compilation & designing of a poisoning database & poisoning registry for the Indian Armed Forces Personnel & their families. He was an invited expert in a WHO SEARO funded panel to develop the National Snakebite Protocol for the Ministry of Health (India).
