Dr. Nader Hamdan, BDS, MSc, MDent-Perio, FRCD(C) is currently an assistant professor in periodontics, Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie University (Canada). Dr. Hamdan finished his undergraduate dental education (BDS) from Jordan University of Science and Technology. After practicing general dentistry for 12 years, Dr. Hamdan obtained an MSc in Dental Sciences from McGill University (Canada). He then completed his training in Periodontics at the University of Manitoba (Canada), where he obtained a second Masters degree (MDent-Periodontics). Dr. Hamdan was certified as a periodontist by the Canadian National Dental Specialty Examination and later became Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in periodontics. He also passed the qualifying examination of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Hamdan conducted research projects of vital importance in the field of periodontics and implant dentistry. His research at McGill University focused on the differences in the dietary intake between mandibular complete denture wearers vs those wearing two-implant overdentures. The findings of this research attracted considerable attention and were published in the Journal of Dental Research. Dr. Hamdan’s research in Manitoba looked at the upregulation of one of the novel biomarkers within the gingival crevicular fluid of patients suffering from moderate-severe periodontal disease. Through this research, Dr. Hamdan exposed the potential role of phospholipids in the periodontal inflammatory process. Currently, Dr. Hamdan is supervising residents’ research at Dalhousie University and is working on multiple collaborative projects with researchers from other Canadian universities. Dr. Hamdan enjoys sharing knowledge through lecturing both nationally and internationally, and giving CDE courses. He also published papers in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, co-authored books and book chapters, and is also the co-author of the world’s first health technology assessment report on mandibular two-implant overdentures. Dr. Hamdan also treats his patients in a specialty practice limited to periodontics in Halifax, Canada.
