Biography

Dr. Priyasma Bhoumik (MSc.,PhD.) is a computational biologist working on diverse safety genetics projects in Preclinical Safety, Translational Medicine at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research. She received her Master’s in Biochemistry from Calcutta University with a specialization in Proteomics, Genomics & Bioinformatics. She finished her Ph.D in Molecular Evolution of Viruses from University of South Carolina under the guidance of eminent evolutionary biologist Dr. Austin Hughes (late) followed by research training at Harvard Medical School & Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard. Here, she was trained in sequence analysis tools (Sanger and next-generation sequencing) and characterization of sequence evolution in HIV as it relates to host immune selection pressures, to provide insight into the design of a HIV vaccine. Her current research interests include understanding human disease biology and toxicology to solve biologically relevant problems using computational approaches, target characterization and species selection for preclinical studies. Her interests also include strategic management, women and children’s health and global healthcare policy. She has excellent records of scientific and academic accomplishments with multiple awards, publications in prestigious journals and various presentations in both national and international conferences.
