Biography

Dr. Mariangela Cantore is Researcher in Biofordrug spin off at the University of Bari. She received her Master Degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies (2005) and her PhD in Medicinal Chemistry (2008) from the University of Bari. She worked in several scientific national and international projects as research fellow in design, synthesis and biological evaluation of small molecules useful for early diagnosis and treatment of resistance tumours overexpressing ABC transporters. In the last five years her research was focused on the development of new ligands suitable for early diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease by PET or by fluorescence assay techniques. In 2012-2013 she was Visiting Researcher at NGMB-UMCG in Groningen where she was trained in 11C and 18F radiolabelling and in biological evaluation of radiotracers in P-gp overexpressing cell lines. Today she is on secondment at University of Sheffield for Marie Curie project (Horizon 2020, People) dealing with the design and implementation of high throughput screening assay useful to study the interaction of ligands with Aβ amyloids. She is supervisor of Master's thesis and co-author of several articles, reviews and three patents.
