Dr. Jua Kim (Ph.D.) accomplished her Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Syracuse University (USA). Her research interests are in biomaterials, corrosion, tribology, and tissue engineering. She is interested in how biomaterials, specifically metals, affect the tissue/body, and how the tissue/body affect the metal corrosion. More specifically, her Ph.D. research has been investigating cytotoxicity of galvanically coupled magnesium-titanium microparticles for therapeutic effect. She is currently working on designing and developing this galvanic couple to target and kill orthopedic device-related infections, which are hard to eradicate using conventional antibiotics.
