Dr. Solomon Olusegun Nwhator is a 1992 Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) graduate of the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He completed his postgraduate residency training in periodontology/periodontics in 2005 obtaining the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCDS - Periodontology) and later, the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS - Periodontology). Dr. Nwhator teaches undergraduate periodontology/periodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife,Nigeria. He is also a postgraduate trainer and honorary consultant periodontologist to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife-Nigeria. He is the Head of Science/Research of the Nigerian Dental Association and lead researcher, Periodontal Medicine Research Group. He is also an honorary. He is a frequent public speaker on periodontology and an external examiner in periodontology to Dental Schools within and outside Nigeria. Dr. Nwhator is currently at advanced stages of his work on the clinical applications of matrix metalloptoteinases to reproductive health parameters. This is in pursuance of a doctorate degree (PhD) in Periodontology at the University of Helsinki (FINDOS) Helsinki, Finland.He is a Christian, happily married with children and has been singing in the Church choir for several decades. He has been music director and Orchestra member and leader for decades. He plays the double bass, and enjoys gardening and odd jobs at home!
His research interests include Periodontal Medicine with special focus on Africa, matrix metalloproteinases and aggressive periodontitis .
