Editor Dr Kavitha Vittal Shawn is presently working as an Assistant Professor in the department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Bangalore Institute of Dental sciences (India). She pursued her post-graduation at the prestigious Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, where she was awarded a gold medal and the departmentís best outgoing student certificate in the year 2014. She graduated Bachelors of Dental Sciences with the highest score and distinction in pharmacology. Her research expertise includes the identification of Polo-Like kinase1 in oral cancer and precancer and the identification of hematological abnormalities in individuals reporting to the O.P.D. She is certified in Statistics, SPSS and Critical Appraisal and is a member of the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology. As co-investigator of a study researching oral cancer stem cell markers, she has obtained a grant for the same from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. Having presented several scientific papers at national and institutional conferences and symposiums, she has won best paper in various categories. She has been a keen diagnostician in outreach rural camps and has helped organise many Continuing Dental Education programmes. She is also a passionate author, writes childrenís stories and has numerous national and international scientific publications to her credit.
