Biography

I am Professor of Cardiology at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila Bucharest, Romania, and head of the Cardiology Department of Clinical Emergency Hospital, Bucharest. I received my medical degree in 1975. I’ve got a post-graduate fellowship in Internal Medicine and in Cardiology. I received a postdoctoral research grant from the French Government in 1991, conducting my research activity at University Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France. I have a special interest in the assessment and treatment of heart failure and arterial hypertension. I have been principal investigator in phase III RELAX-AHF and RELAX-AHF-2 trials as well as SENIORS and BEAUTIFUL trials. These trials regard the effects of the new agent serelaxin in the patients with acute heart failure. I am the President of the Romanian Society of Hypertension and the national coordinator of the SEPHAR studies (Study for the Evaluation of Prevalence of Hypertension and Cardiovascular Risk among the Adult Population of Romania). Between 2008 and 2014 I was member of CPC of ESC, Group of Hypertension. Since 2016 I am the chairperson of the Coronary Pathophysiology and Microcirculation Working Group of European Society of Cardiology. I am the author of more than 450 articles/book chapters and monographies (current H index: 21, ISI citations: 2742). In 2016 I edited the book Current Approach to heart Failure at Springer. I am the editor of Journal of Hypertension Research.
