Biography

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Taky El-Din Khayyal, (MTK), emeritus Professor of Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, Egypt, was born in Cairo on 26th October 1937. He obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in 1958 from Alexandria University and later his PhD in Pharmacology from London University (UK) in 1964. MTK is presently President of the Egyptian Society of Pharmacology and is a member of many international scientific societies, including the German Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Societies, the American Gastroenterology Association, the German Society of Neurogastroenterology, the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Products Research (GA), German Society for Phytotherapy, African Society of Pharmacology and served as Councillor to the International Union of Pharmacology (2002 – 2010). He is presently also affiliated to the German University in Cairo as Academic Advisor. MTK obtained Fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, (1978), and Fulbright Foundation (1987). MTK has over 100 scientific publications in national and international Journals. His main interests lie in the field of inflammatory and gastrointestinal disorders, natural products, herbal medicine and the effects of radiation exposure. He continues research to the present day at Cairo University in collaboration with the international Pharmaceutical industry. MTK is fluent in both spoken and written English, German, and French apart from his mother native tongue, Arabic. Apart from his scientific activities, MTK is a fervent Rotarian and a member of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs.
